A Kind of Loving

Hi John,

Whilst in Lancashire recently, I managed to identify a couple of locations from 'A Kind of Loving' that may be of interest to you.

The seaside resort where Alan Bates and June Ritchie arrive for their honeymoon is Lytham St. Annes, just a couple of miles down the coast from Blackpool. The pier in the background as they get off the bus is St. Annes Pier which, along with the adjacent gardens, looks pretty much the same today. However, chatting to locals, it would appear that the extreme seaward end of the pier was demolished in the 1980's following a fire.

................that's a good one.

The scene where Alan Bates meets June Ritchie and Patsy Rowland was shot in Miller Arcade in Preston. The arcade still exists but looks much grander than in the film and would appear to have been the subject of some extensive restoration work.

.................yes, we've got this, taken in August, but thanks all the same

I actually live in the North East of England and would be delighted to attempt to identify the locations any films which were shot in this area. In particular, I happen to know many of the locations used in 'Get Carter' which was filmed in this region in the 1970's.

..................So, lets make "Get Carter" your pet project. It's yours for 90 days from today. So everone else, hands off.
Do your best

Finally, congratulations on a great web-site - keep up the good work.
Regards,
Brian Leng.

.................thanks and best wishes
